About
The Onaghga, a race of towering, gentle giants, once roamed the lush valleys and rugged peaks of western Baraniendemor. These magnificent beings stood over fifteen feet tall, their muscular frames covered in a thick, protective hide that was covered in hair. Known for their immense strength and serene nature, the Onaghga lived in harmony with the land, tending to the forests and maintaining the balance of nature.
For centuries, the Onaghga were worshipped by the indigenous peoples of Baraniendemor, who saw them as great big protectors of Anarkand and symbols of wisdom and peace. The giants' deep, resonant voices were said to carry ancient songs that could heal the land and bring prosperity. They lived simple lives, constructing massive stone dwellings and engaging in rituals that honoured the natural world.
Due to the expansion of Anarkian civilizations, the hunger for power and luxury grew, and the Onaghga's fate took a dark turn. Stories of their tender, succulent flesh and incredible strength spread across Anarkand, drawing the attention of traders, poachers, and slavers. What began as sporadic hunting soon turned into an organized campaign of slaughter and enslavement.
The Onaghga's meat became a prized delicacy, served in the courts of the wealthy and powerful. Their bones and hides were fashioned into weapons, armour, and other items of great value. Those not killed for their flesh were captured and sold into slavery, forced to labour under brutal conditions due to their unmatched strength. They were used to construct monumental buildings, mine precious minerals, and perform tasks that no Anarkian could endure.
The Fall of a Species
Over the years, the population of the Onaghga dwindled rapidly. The once-thriving communities were reduced to memories and ruins, their songs silenced by the cries of suffering and death. By the time the world realized the gravity of their actions, it was too late. The Onaghga were all but extinct.
Garrett: The Last Onaghga
Garrett, as he is affectionately named by a sympathetic farmer who discovered him injured and hiding in the mountains, is believed to be the last of his kind. The farmer, a kind-hearted Demorian named Eldin, found Garrett as a young giant, barely surviving an attack by poachers. Eldin nursed Garrett back to health, forging a bond that transcended species and language.
Garrett grew under Eldin's care, living in secret on the outskirts of the farmer's land. Eldin taught him the ways of the Demorian, while Garrett shared the ancient knowledge and gentle wisdom of his people. Despite his immense size and strength, Garrett was a creature of peace, preferring to spend his days tending to the land and caring for the animals.
