About
The Tevann are native to Murdu, a country located to the south of Marrakis. These unique creatures are known for their annual global migration to the Klescha Marshlands, a journey they undertake with remarkable precision and regularity. The migration occurs once a year and lasts for approximately one Earth month, after which the Tevann return to their homeland.
These creatures have a peculiar and intimidating appearance. Their bodies are roughly the size of a small dog, such as a chihuahua, but they appear much larger due to the straw-like thorns that cover their bodies, similar to the quills of a porcupine. These thorns not only give the Tevann a formidable look but also serve as a defensive mechanism against predators.
In addition to their thorny exteriors, Tevann possess two small, sharp horns on their heads, which they use both for defence and in skirmishes with rivals. Their mouths are lined with two rows of sharp, puncturing teeth, which are adept at tearing through flesh and plant material alike. Despite their size, Tevann are highly aggressive creatures, often engaging in fierce territorial battles.
This aggression extends to their interactions with other species as well as within their own kind. During the migration to the Klescha Marshlands, fights among Tevann are common as they compete for the best nesting spots and access to food sources.
Their aggressiveness is tempered somewhat by their remarkable navigational skills. The annual migration proves their innate ability to travel vast distances with unerring accuracy. Scientists and observers on Anarkand have long been fascinated by the Tevann's ability to find their way across the globe to the same marshlands each year.
In their native habitat of Murdu, Tevann play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Their diet consists of small creatures, insects, and various plants, which helps to control the populations of these species. The thorns on their bodies also deter many potential predators, ensuring that Tevann remain one of the dominant ( small ) species in their environment.
During their stay in the Klescha Marshlands, Tevann contribute to the ecological balance of this unique ecosystem. They help to aerate the soil with their digging and foraging behaviours, which promotes plant growth and the overall health of the marshlands. Their presence also influences the behaviour and distribution of other species, creating a dynamic and interdependent ecosystem.
